After some persistent rain the day before, the weather brightened up just in time for our walk on Sunday, 9 May 2021, this time from Ripley Castle, a Grade I listed 14th century country house 3 miles north of Harrogate. Both the medium walk (8.25 miles) and the long walk (12 miles) started at the Ripley Castle car park and went over undulating terrain and for some part along the river Nidd. At Ripley Castle, walkers enjoyed beautiful views of bluebell covered woods and a sighting of fallow deer. The long walkers also had a close encounter with a group of cows who seemed intrigued by us but were harmless. Typical for this time of year, there were also many sheep with their little lambs roaming the hills and fields. The weather stayed dry and fine during the whole walk and some of us even enjoyed a drink afterwards outside the pub at Ripley Castle or tried some of the famous Ripley ice cream.
