Danby - 08 May 2022

By Sonja Allen

The weather turned out better than forecast and we set off from Danby on the North York Moors in lovely sunshine, pleasant temperatures and hardly any wind. The long walkers climbed up to Danby Beacon, once an RAF station, where we stopped for our elevenses enjoying the views over the moor. The long walk then continued to Brown Riggs End and on to Scaling Dam Reservoir where we took our lunch break, before heading back to Danby. The short walkers took a different route heading towards Castleton and Commondale, then over the moors passing two ancient crosses and back to Danby. Both groups came back at the same time and we either enjoyed tea or coffee in the Danby Estate tearooms or a refreshing drink in the local pub before the coach took us back to Selby.
