Due to COVID National restrictions, the first walk of the year for the Selby Fell Walking Club (SFWC) took place on Sunday 18th April 2021, this was from the Castle Howard Estate and surrounding area.

The medium walk was a circular 7.5 mile which started from the Car Park at Castle Howard. It was led by Elizabeth Dear & John Bell and consisted of 23 Club members.

The long walk, led by Steve Howard, was a 12.2 mile circular from the village of Welburn with a group of 17 members.

All relevant social distancing were in place for both groups. Both walks were moderate, and not too difficult, the long walk did have a slight climb up into Coneysthorpe Banks Wood.

The day started off cool and with grey skies, but by mid-morning it turned out sunny with plenty of warmth and blue skies.

Sadly the club is unable to lead short walks at the moment due to the leader of these walks retiring from the club in the summer of 2020, so any willing volunteer is welcome.
