Linear walks into Scarborough on 10 Oct 2021

By Sonja Allen

We started our day in bright sunshine, hardly any wind and quite mild temperatures for this time of year. The coach dropped the long walkers, led by Steve Howard and Irene Brereton, off at Folkton and the short walkers, led by me and Hilary Putman, at Muston near Filey. Thus, the long walkers could walk an extra 4 miles before joining the itinerary of the short walk. Both walks took in some of the Yorkshire Wolds Way and then headed towards the coast at Cayton Bay. Once we reached the coast, we stopped for lunch and enjoyed the great sea views from the top of the cliffs. Unfortunately, it then started to get a bit cloudier and cooler, but it still remained quite pleasant overall. After lunch, we followed (or continued to follow) the Cleveland Way along the coast and all the way into Scarborough avoiding only one bit that would have meant descending down to the beach and coming up a steep set of steps again. Once we were close to our final destination, the Spa complex at the South Beach of Scarborough, the long walkers had caught up with the short walkers and we were walking the last bit together. We then dispersed to enjoy a drink or a cup of tea wherever we fancied it, before being picked up by the coach an hour later to take us back to Selby

Special thanks to Hilary and Irene who went the week before to a very overgrown spot on the route of the long walkers in order to clear it, making for a much more enjoyable walk for us and any other walkers.
