From Friday 26 April until Sunday 28 April 2024, 22 members of the club spent the weekend at The Royal Victoria Hotel at Llanberis in Wales. We were very lucky with the weather which was cold but sunny and dry making for an excellent walking experience with stunning views.
On Friday 26 April 2024, Steve Howard lead a group 10 of members on a 9.7 mile circular walk from Conwy, starting near Conwy Castle and heading south along tracks, woods and roads for Henryd. We continued west slightly uphill and joined the Cambrian Way, which lead us to the Myndd y Dref (Conwy Mountain). We then headed downhill back into Conwy.
Mick Higgs lead a small group of walkers on a walk at waterfalls near Betws-y-Coed.
On Saturday 27 April 2024, Mick Higgs & Steve Howard lead 15 members of the club, from the hotel uphill to the top of Snowdon, following and crossing the Snowdon Mountain Railway. We ended up splitting into 3 groups but all made it to the top and back down on this 8.6 mile walk. Sadly due to the amount of other walkers, there was a queue at the very top with over an hour wait to get to the top trig point, and as it was very cold with icy patches and very windy on the top of Snowdon, not everyone braved the wait. But still, everyone was immensely proud to have made it to the top, and the views were just stunning.
Bob Taylor, lead the remaining 4 members on a lower walk around Llyn Padarn and visiting the National Slate Museum.
On Sunday 28 April 2024, Steve Howard lead 5 members on a 5.7 mile circular walk round the south edge and over the top of Great Orme, Llandudno, Helen Robertshaw lead some members walking around Llandudno.
Mick Higgs took a small group to visit Dolbadarn Castle at Llanberis, then planned a short walk around Llyn Idwal off the A5, near Capel Curig.
Many Thanks must go to the Club's Secretary Helen Robertshaw for her hard work and time for arranging the accommodation over this wonderful weekend, Helen is currently working on next Year's weekend away, time and place to be confirmed.
