On this warm and sunny spring day, the Humber Bridge provided the permanent setting for our March walks. The medium (9 miles) and long walk (11 miles) both started at the Humber Bridge car park and went over the bridge. After the crossing both group went different ways. The long walk bore east towards Barton Waterside through some woods back towards the Humber passing Barton Waterside and towards the Water’s Edge visitors centre. The group walked along the edge of Humber and marsh land and pools to our right which are part of the nature reserve. It then left the estuary at Barrow Haven and walked inland through fields and wooded areas back to Barton–upon– Humber and back across the Humber Bridge. The medium walkers followed the road to Far Ings National Nature Reserve Visitor Centre which had plenty of table and seats and was therefore an ideal place for a coffee stop. After a short break they headed west along the Viking Way running along the edge of the River Humber. Once they reached Chowder Ness Car Park they headed south and picked up the footpath back into Far Ings Nature Reserve and headed back to the Visitor Centre for an early lunch. After lunch they picked up the Viking Way again, but this time headed east taking them under the Humber Bridge and the very start of the Viking Way. As to after walk refreshments, those wishing for a stronger drink headed back over the Humber Bridge to the pub, the remainder went to the café at Ropewalk in Barton-upon-Humber. Then we all returned back to the coach heading back over the Humber Bridge.
