Dry and mostly sunny weather awaited us in Ilkley where both the medium walk (8.5 miles) and the long walk (11.5 miles) started on the Dales Way path to Addingham. Past Addingham, we crossed a footbridge over the river and headed to Beacon Hill House. Here was where the long walk started their ascent to the summit of Beamsley Beacon (393 metres) while the medium walk stayed on lower ground, taking in Foldshaw Ridge and Parks Track and slowly descending onto Hardings Lane, passing through Coppy Wood and back to Ilkley. After reaching Beamsley Beacon, the long walkers climbed further to the summit of Round Hill (409 metres) and then descended down to Parks Lane, Hardings Lane and through Middleton Woods.
