Long walk (10 miles): Leaving Knaresborough we followed the river along the Beryl Burton Way. We walked through Foolish Wood, past Knaresborough Forest Park and underneath the Nidd viaduct, and then gradually ascended away from the river through the parkland. We proceeded along Liners Lane, descended back towards the River Nidd, and continued until we arrived at Viaduct Wood.

Leaving the river, we walked up towards Willow Wood and along near Bilton Beck towards Old Bilton, until reaching Limekiln Plantation. We followed the road for a while until Spring Wood which we walked through back to the River Nidd. We crossed the river, went back up towards Ripley Road and gradually returned to Knaresborough.

Medium Walk (7 miles). From Conyngham Hall car park we took the bridge over the River Nidd and immediately took the Harrogate Ringway footpath on the south side of the river - the path took us away from the river as we climbed towards Bilton Hall. After approximately one mile we turned onto a tarmac road for a short distance before turning west across fields and onto the disused railway track towards Old Bilton. Passing the Gardeners Arms public house we then took the path over fields where we re-joined the Harrogate Ringway path near the river. Turning east, we headed back towards Knaresborough along the riverside path. Going through the Woodlands Trust Nidd Gorge we continued along the riverside path back into Knaresborough.
