This years annual trip to the Lake District saw 20 members of the SFWC stay at Glaramara Hotel from the 15th to 17th September 2023.
On Friday 15th September 2023, Steve Howard lead a 8 ½ mile circular from Tan Hill Inn, heading south for Keld along the Pennine Way and returning north along the tarmac road, starting off in low cloud and drizzle, but it did turn clear once we started to drop down into Keld. But sadly the walk finished with low cloud. The 9 walkers managed refreshments in the Inn before departing to Glaramara Hotel.
Saturday 16th September 2023, both walks left the accommodation. Steve Howard lead 7 members on a 7 mile circular via Glaramara at 783m. Sadly, the tough climb was not rewarded with any views due to low cloud. Heading off the top, we manged some great views of Borrowdale and Derwent Water. We finished the walk with refreshments at the newly open Honister’s Yew Tree public house.
Mick Higgs lead 12 members on a 10 mile walk at low level along the Cumbria Way following Stonethwaite & Langstrath Beck’s, calling at Langstrath Country Inn at Stonethwaite, before heading back to accommodation at Glaramara.
Sunday 17th September 2023, Mick Higgs lead a short 4 mile circular from the accommodation, heading for Strands Bridge and then for and along Black Sike into Seathwaite, crossing over the footbridge. He then followed the footpath for Seathwaite Bridge and the the road back to Glaramara Hotel for one more last time.
