Rocks and Llamas
By Sonja Allen
The long and medium walk went up Pateley Bridge High Street past the Oldest Sweet Shop In The World to join the Panorama Walk with excellent views over the valley. It then joined the Nidderdale Way, went through Blazefield, past Daleside Farm and Kiln Farm. From here the medium walk took a downward path to the valley of the Nidd and after reaching the river it turned right along the Nidd River Path back into Pateley Bridge.
The long walk continued past Cragg Hall and White Houses with curious Llamas watching our steps. It then dropped down to cross the bridge over Fell Beck before climbing up to the plateau of Brimham Rocks. The walk went through the Rocks, along a short road section, and then dropped into the valley of the Nidd to take the Nidd River Path back into Pateley Bridge.
The steady walk followed along the Nidd River Path and turned back at Glasshouses, a pleasant village with a beautifully restored old mill and a reservoir with plenty of water birds.
