Autumn leafs and sunshine
by Sonja Allen
Warm, sunny autumn weather with hardly any wind awaited us for our October walks. The long walk started approximately 2 miles south of Masham on the road to Grewelthorpe. Dropping down towards the river, we entered the woods near Aldburgh Hall passing the Hackall Trust Fountain onto the village of Mickley and then to West Tanfield where we followed the same route as the Medium / Steady walkers.
Medium/Steady Walk: Crossing the Tanfield Bridge, we followed the route to Ripon - much of it along the edge of the river Ure. We passed through the village of North Stanley with its attractive cricket ground and continued on past Middle Parks Farm before reaching Ripon City Golf Club. We turned east through South Parks Farm and back along the river edge path. When we entered the north side of Ripon near Little Studley, the steady walkers could complete their walk and return to the centre of Ripon while the medium walkers continued along the river walk for approximately another 1 mile before returning to Ripon town centre.
