Wetherby - 9th January 2022

By Sonja Allen

On a cold but relatively bright winter morning we set off from the town centre of Wetherby for our two walks of 10.5 and 7.5 miles respectively. The pavements and roads in town were a bit slippery but we were soon out in the countryside where we had to overcome our next "challenge", very muddy paths. As it had rained a lot in the previous days, the mud was quite deep and slippery and some of us wished we had brought some walking poles with us to manage it better. The long walk took in Linton, Spofforth and a long stretch of the disused railway line back into Wetherby. The latter became quite busy with other walkers and cyclists but was not so muddy and provided for very easy walking. The shorter walk went along much of the same route. All in all, everyone was happy to walk off some of the pounds gained over Christmas, have a nice chat and enjoy some fresh air.
